The Tech Writer Highlight - Nat from The AI Observer
Nat is writing at The AI Observer where she talk about the most recent developments in AI.
Hello, tech writers and readers. Welcome to the first edition of The Tech Writer Highlight, a newsletter that brings you both new and seasoned writers. In this issue, we talk to
from .First, tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you, what is your day job, what are your professional interests?
Hi, my name is Natia, and I’m from Georgia. I have a diverse background, with a master’s degree in Spanish philology and experience in marketing and programming. I discovered my passion for programming at 16 when I learned Visual Basic and started my first blog in 2003. I’ve been interested in technology for a long time and even completed a programming course at the University of Chicago (The O'Reilly School of Technology).
In addition to my technical skills, I also have a musical background, having graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory with a major in piano. I used to play chess competitively and even won the title of national master of sports in chess before giving it up. Currently, I am working in the real estate and tourism industries.
Now tell us
. What is it about? What topics do you cover? Who is your intended audience?I have a blog on Substack that focuses solely on the topic of artificial intelligence. Despite owning around 30 websites and projects in various niches, I dedicate a significant amount of time to this blog because AI is a field I have worked in for years, and my first startup (VegaLMS) was based on it.
Currently, I spend most of my free time working on AI. My target audience is anyone interested in the field, and I strive to make my posts accessible to all readers by avoiding unnecessary technical details.
How, when, and why did you begin writing about technical topics on the Internet?
I have been a blogger for almost 20 years, writing technical articles, product reviews, and tutorials as an affiliate partner for Amazon and Microsoft. While this is not new to me, I recently started writing about artificial intelligence in May, which has been an exciting new adventure.
What role does technical writing play in your job and life?
I frequently discuss technical details with students on our platform and beyond. Technology is a significant part of my daily life, and I wouldn’t change that even though I now work in real estate and am an Airbnb Superhost.
How is your writing process? How do you organize your writing schedule? How much time does writing take you, on average?
That’s an interesting question. My mornings begin at 5 am, and the most challenging part is coming up with a topic. I start by brainstorming and writing down several ideas, then choose the most relevant one based on current trends on Twitter and input from friends.
My last article took over two weeks to write because I needed to read several studies for accuracy, but a standard article usually takes about a week to prepare. I always carry my smartphone with me to jot down ideas as they come, or write them on paper if I don’t have my phone. It’s an engaging process.
What kind of advice could you give people considering or getting started with technical writing?
It’s important to find enjoyment in the writing process, as writing can be challenging. I follow these principles, and if someone else can find them useful, I’d be happy.
Set a schedule: Consistency often breeds creativity. Try to write at the same time each day.
Break it down: Don't try to write the perfect article all at once. Break it down into smaller tasks such as brainstorming ideas, researching, outlining, drafting, and editing.
Just start: Sometimes, the hardest part is starting. Write anything, even if it's not perfect. You can always edit and improve it later.
Any closing words you’d like to share with the readers of The Tech Writers Stack?
Absolutely, it's been a pleasure to connect with the dedicated readers of The Tech Writers Stack. Despite the late hour, or rather the early morning, the enthusiasm for AI never rests, much like the technology itself. I urge each of you to remember that artificial intelligence is not just a trending topic or buzzword. It's rapidly transforming our world, influencing all aspects of our lives in unprecedented ways.
In my blog,
, I aim to decode this complex topic and provide accessible and insightful narratives about AI. It's about observing, understanding, and engaging with this transformative technology and its implications for our collective future. So as we move forward, let's continue the dialogue, question, and engage with AI. It's the curiosity that fuels our understanding and, ultimately, our capacity to shape this technology in ways that benefit humanity. Don't just passively absorb information about AI; question it, engage with it, and be a part of this fascinating journey.
Finally, to all the night owls and early risers, I'd like to say, “Embrace the spirit of AI - it's always learning, always evolving, and doesn't need to sleep. Let's continue to learn and evolve together.”
Thank you.
