Last week I presented to a 1200 person online webinar ... I think my biggest audience yet. But really the best part is that I clarified some of my thinking in preparation.
So Medium is trying to insert a "human element" into the algorithm. So they are asking pub editors to nominate the most interesting stories for their boosters ... who then give the algorithm a boost. Guaranteed 500 views, but can be a lot more.
It's kind like if Elon Musk really wants people to see your Tweet. 😆
Honestly, it is debatable. I run a pub there for educators who want to create online that's been getting traction. It is a great place to start writing online. I make some money every month from the Medium partnership program ... but not a ton.
It is not much effort to cross-post. You just put your Substack link as the canonical link in the settings. You get the Medium views and money, but search will always point to your substack.
Yep. I think that's the kind of thing that could do well on Medium. I'm happy to try and boost it for you. If you join the Medium Partnership Program, you'll get paid for reads.
You do have to join Medium ($5 a month), but it is fairly easy to make that back eventually.
Actually, I think it might need to be behind the paywall to get boosted.
I launched a podcast on my Substack yesterday. It's a podcast about podcasts, where I share a bite-sized summary each month of 5 episodes that have helped stimulate my curiosity.
I put it behind the paywall and not sure how that will go, but made a clear note that I would comp anyone who asks. Also turned on Referrals so that folks could get a comped membership that way. Would be curious to hear what you all think!
Folks, these are fantastic milestones, and I am here to celebrate them with you all!
On a personal note, I squeaked past 500 subscribers last month, and I'm looking forward to the sprint to 1000. I'm grateful to what this community has done for me to help me attain liftoff, and I'm here to do the same for others!
In terms of content's breadth of scope at least, you've worked harder than any other substacker I know of, and without sacrificing quality. Very well earned.
Not a milestone yet, but 6 short of 1,000 subs. Although I will celebrate at 1024!
I love this!
Thanks, Andrew!

This was a great read! Thanks for sharing.
Also I’m a boost nominator on Medium now if anyone is still over there.
Kind of ironic, because I’ve been badmouthing them a bit. 😆
Haha reverse karma
How's that work?

Is it worth cross-posting to Medium to make that work or do you need to set up shop there too?

Just reached 100 subscribers, and got a promotion at work, so not a bad way to end September!
It's exponential growth from now on!

Hey all. Couple of fun milestones.
1. I crossed 2048 subs this week. (riffing off of @abhinav)
2. My sci-fi book was recently published on the impact of AI and what it means to be human.

If anyone is interested in doing a formal review on your substack, let me know and I'll get you a copy!
@edemgold did a great interview on it recently too!

Lastly, if you haven't seen it yet, there's a great video preview.

Lots to share! Glad we're back!
Congrats man! Writing at least one fiction book is one of my life milestones.
Congrats, Michael. That's a great milestone number.
Slow and steady

500 is huge, lots of Substacks never get there. Consistency and quality, man.
Thanks, dude! I feel very fortunate, but also like I've worked pretty hard on this. I'm motivated to continue.

Thanks, Ale! Means a lot to hear.
You and this crew in particular have supported me from the very beginning.
Congrats, Andrew! Your substack and Notes are blowing up, way to go!
Thanks, Abhinav!
